Hello Care Partners, I frequently get asked if we can FIX Dementia. The short answer is NO. As of today, we cannot fix Dementia. There are lots of ways to join them on the journey but if you goal is to Fix them, we definitely need discuss this. Setting goals as a care partner, are very important and need to realistic and personalized. Everyone is different, and your person's needs will be different and ever changing. Maybe our goals start with: Great Relationships, Decreased Stress and Agitation, Pain Management, Better Nutrition and Hygiene. We also need to incorporate Purpose. This is vital especially in the earlier parts of the journey. There are many examples in this podcast of providing purpose. The toughest part is the unpredictability of this diagnosis, so we always need to be planning for plan B. This may look like hiring caregivers or extending their hours.
